2013 was a busy year!

As we come to the end of 2013, it is time reflect on the busy and exciting year that students at South London Youth Theatre have had!  Our weekly Advanced Drama Class continues to grow, attracting many new talented students.  We are thrilled to announce that founder members of SLYT, Issy Lyons and Shaquille Taylor (both took lead roles in Once On This Island in 2011, Fame in 2012 and Hairspray in 2013) have gained coveted places on the 3 year Musical Theatre course at Urdang Academy in London, with a second offer for Shaquille from Arts Educational, leading schools in the industry.  We are so thrilled for you both and will support you all the way to the professional stage!

Idriss Khargbo (our Seaweed in Hairspray) went on to play one of the leads in the Broadway transfer of The Scottsboro Boys at The Young Vic theatre, and we feel honoured to have worked with him at SLYT.

An exciting development came in October when Jina Jay Casting (Casting Director of Harry Potter, Tin Tin, and Atonement) contacted us during the search for an actor aged 13-15 years to play a leading role in the new Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) film The Brothers Lionheart.  A Casting Associate came along to our weekly class and was very impressed with what she saw, subsequently offering 2 of our boys auditions for the movie, to be released in 2014.

This was an excellent opportunity for our students and one that we hope to repeat when the opportunity next arises!
